Emacs Search

03.10.2018 10:00

I’m writing this up, because I had a hard time figuring it out. You use C-s to search in Emacs, then you type what you are looking for and hit RET (enter, return or whatever you call it). Then you hit C-s or C-r to search forwards or backwords for that phrase and repeat until you find it. If you wish to edit the phrase you do so with M-e.

Regular Emacs

02.10.2018 10:00

Over the last few months I have been wondering how it is like to use regular Emacs. So, when I changed jobs I decided to give regular emacs a shot because I would not use any of my personal machines for work stuff.

Using regular Emacs is unlike anything else. It is very powerful and verbose, and it takes a really long time to get into it. But it was not that hard to get the basics into the fingers (quitting, opening files and saving files). I’m still in the “how the fuck was that again?” phase. But I like this a lot better than I liked evil. The reason is that everything feels way faster without it. This will be a long journey, and expect a lot of emacs posts in the future .

Daily Carry

01.10.2018 10:00

My current daily carry is a little bit larger than usual because I am trying some stuff out at the moment. But I hope to have things back to normal by the time I do the next one of these.

In my pocket I carry a Bullet Spacepen, with a clip on it, a pocket sized notebook, and a Nock.co Talluah filled with Nock.co Index Cards, and two TWSBI Eco.

The stuff I carry in my bag is still a lot like always, my good old Hightower filled with a couple of fresh Field Notes, three pens (Pilot Vanishing Point, Lamy 2000 and Pilot Metal Falcon), a KUM Masterpiece sharpener. I have recently started to use a Nock.co Pencil case, that I love, I usually have it filled with around 24 pencils, Currently Golden Bears.

My current notebook setup is a little bit in the middle of a change. I’m filling up my last Leuchtturm1917 notebooks as we are speaking, and I plan to start using Travelers Notebooks again. This is because now that I can get them from Norway, I can save a not unsigficiant amount of money on notebooks.

As I have been typing on this Happy Hacking Keyboard, I have been thinking a lot about why I hate the modern Apple keyboards, parts of it is key travel. But the thing I really hate about them is that the shift key is too small. That shift key is a large part of why I type way more wrong than I do on any other keyboard.
