Losing my religion for equality

28.04.2015 02:00

It’s not the first time I have read this one, and it is excellent.

I’m an atheist, and I have big problems with religion on some key points.

Most of it is related to how people that are not men, white or straight are treated by most religions. But I also have a big problem with how lesser countries like The United States of America treat atheists. But my main problem is how we let religion get mix up with issues related to free speech, health or politics.

  • Religion can’t stop equality

  • Religion can’t stop gay marriage

  • Religion can’t stop stem cell research

  • Religion can’t stop distribution of free condoms

  • Religion can’t stop distribution of free syringes for drug addicts

  • Religion can’t stop proper education, by demanding dumbass subjects like creationism.

I don’t accept any argument that is only rooted in either religion, culture or “we have always done that”. It’s fine, it is a part of the argument, but it can’t be the only thing.

Yes, I know that every religious person isn’t crazy or terrible, or both. But most religions are built on a foundation that makes it too easy to try to stop the progress of society, and I hate to tell you, but everyone that tries to stop progress, will loose.

Welcome, Mac Power Users! — Relay FM

28.04.2015 02:00

Relay.fm:

I’ve listened to Apple podcasts for a long time, and with over 250 episodes published, Mac Power Users has been a constant listen of mine for years.

Mac Power Users isn’t just a podcast; it’s an institution. The guest list is impressive, with greats like Rod Roddenberry, Merlin Mann, Aisha Tyler and David Allen making appearances.

That’s why today’s announcement is so exciting: MPU is joining Relay FM.

Okay, I didn’t see this one coming, but it is really awesome to see Relay.fm doing so well.

Apple Offers Developers Chance To Purchase Apple Watch, Guarantees Shipping By April 28th | TechCrunch

24.04.2015 02:00

This is both good, and bad. I think the random selection thing is good for WWDC tickets, but I think I would prefer some other selection process for something like this.

Either hand-picking developers, or giving developers that have submitted Apple Watch apps to the store.

It is not perfect, but it is a step in the right direction.

Apple.com – an album on Flickr

Screenshots of Apple.com over the years. The most impressive is how good some of the post-Steve Jobs website designs hold up, even today.

Day One for Apple Watch | Day One

24.04.2015 02:00

Looks interesting.

I have kind of been a little bit negative about the Apple Watch, just because I prefer regular watches, for many reasons.

But, I might get one at some point, if there are any convincing use cases for it down the road.

Policy and product updates aimed at combating abuse | Twitter Blogs

24.04.2015 02:00

We believe that users must feel safe on Twitter in order to fully express themselves. As our General Counsel Vijaya Gadde explained last week in an opinion piece for the Washington Post, we need to ensure that voices are not silenced because people are afraid to speak up. To that end, we are today announcing our latest product and policy updates that will help us in continuing to develop a platform on which users can safely engage with the world at large.

Twitter really really really need to get their act together when it comes to harassment. This looks like a step in the right direction.

Shawn Needs Dental Surgery by Shawn King – GoFundMe

24.04.2015 02:00

Shawn King:

The good news is, the dentist didn’t charge me for the appointment. The bad news is, I have “advanced periodontal disease” – basically, I’ve lost so much bone in my upper jaw, my teeth don’t have anything to hold on to. So they will continue to fall out unless I do something about it.

Shawn is a great podcaster, and he have been doing it for 21 years, long before I knew anything about Apple, and long before anyone knew about iPod, or podcasting.

He needs you help!

TidBITS

There are a few sites, not many, around, or still around that was there when I started to use the internet in the 90s, TidBITS is one of them. Sites come and go, while some just stay the same year after year, TidBITS is one of them.
