ADOBE FLASH—THAT INSECURE, ubiquitous resource hog everyone hates to need—is under siege, again, and hopefully for the last time. The latest calls for its retirement come from some of the Internet’s most powerful players, but if the combined clattering of Facebook, Firefox, and a legion of unsatisfied users isn’t enough finally to put it in the ground, scroll down to see how to axe it from your devices yourself.

Flash are already dying, there are no Flash on iOS, and the Android version was killed a long time ago. I see some Flash on Facebook, usually videos, and I once in a while(or year) see a Youtube video that isn’t available as HTML5 video.

The big question is: how soon can we get rid of the reminaing 1% of the flash content on the web? My belief is that this won’t happen before we set a date, or just kill the damn thing; because they don’t have any incentives to do so before then.

Work/Play – Limited Edition Confidant – Baron Fig

Fantastic! I love notebooks that combine blank pages with either grid or lines. Like the Field Notes notebooks from last year. The reason is simple: I usually write notes in my notebooks, but there are times, where a simple sketch is the most efficient thing, or when you doodle during a meeting / lecture because, well it’s boring.

I wish there was more notebooks like this.

5 Amazing Female Writers Who Wrote One Book and then Disappeared

16.07.2015 02:00

Being a writer of novels is considered a calling and lifelong commitment, not something people try once and never do again, like babysitting or working in a call centre. While some one-novel writers left this world under tragic circumstances others just dropped the mike and walked off the public stage, dedicating their lives to other endeavours.

Goodbye, Satoru Iwata | iMore

16.07.2015 02:00

Peter Cohen:

Iwata was remarkable for a few reasons. He was the first boss of Nintendo who was not a member of the founding Yamauchi family. He was also only the fourth person to run the company, which got its start in the 19th century as a maker of hanafuda playing cards. Iwata was also not a career executive: He started out as a programmer, working for a Japanese video game developer called HAL Laboratory Inc.

The world lost a giant.

Facebooks new chief security officer wants to set a date to kill Flash | The Verge

14.07.2015 02:00

Yes!

I have not had Flash installed outside the bundled version in Chrome since 2010; when I switched from Firefox to Chrome. And it isn’t that often I need flash for anything; maybe three or four times a month.

We need to phase it out. Because, the remianing flash content will only dissapair when they are forced to do so.

On Negative App Store Reviews During Betas of iOS and OS X – MacStories

13.07.2015 02:00

Federico Viticci:

What’s even more unfortunate is that this happens annually for every single iOS and OS X developer seed, but I fear the problem will be exacerbated this year by the availability of public betas anyone can try. Therefore, this bears repeating.

This is a unsolvable problem. Many of the Public Beta / Developer Beta users understand that stuff won’t work and that developers can’t ship versions that build against the new OS API’s yet. But there are still many users that don’t understand this. It is unfortunate, and as always, I hope that Apple will do something about the review system.
