It is great to see that Adobe takes iOS seriously, photo editing on iOS isn’t really my thing, but a lot of people like it, and I believe that Adobe is the company that will give them the worlds best tools to do that.

Evernote is in deep trouble – Business Insider

06.10.2015 02:00

I mostly agree with it, something I think is weird, because it is Business Insider. My problem with Evernote is that they have focused too much on extending the product, and not enough on making the core product better; the oposite have been the case, I find the core experience way worse today, than it was in 2010, something I think is sad.

patrickrhone / journal » Blog Archive » Some Thoughts On Solitude

I have long wanted to take a private/personal retreat of some kind. Last Christmas, my best friend Dawn gave me the gift of one — telling me to simply choose what I wanted and she would take care of any needed details. I searched for through the many option in the area, but kept coming back to a Franciscan based hermitage retreat called Pacem in Terris (Latin for “Peace on Earth”). My Birthday fell at the end of last week and I felt it would be perfect timing to spend it there in solitude and reflection.

The Brooks Review

One new feature in El Capitan is the ability to auto-hide the menubar. Like with the Dock auto-hiding, the menubar only appears when you move your mouse to where the menubar should be. When I found the option during the beta period, I immediately turned it on and have not looked back. It’s one of the best new features of OS X.

I agree, this is one of the best new things in El Cap. I have a lot of things going on in the Menu bar, and that is great when you need it, but I also find everything that isn’t related to what I’m doing a distraction, and the only way you could hide the menu bar in previous versions of OS X was to go into Full Screen mode. I think Full screen mode is great, but it isn’t always the right choice.

It is great to finally be able to auto hide it.

The Cost of Mobile Ads on 50 News Websites – The New York Times

05.10.2015 02:00

Ad blockers, which Apple first allowed on the iPhone in September, promise to conserve data and make websites load faster. But how much of your mobile data comes from advertising? We measured the mix of advertising and editorial on the mobile home pages of the top 50 news websites – including ours – and found that more than half of all data came from ads and other content filtered by ad blockers. Not all of the news websites were equal

It is ridiculous, and out of control, boston.com had 15.4 megs of ad-content and 4 megs of real content on their front page. There is a reason I use ad and content blockers, and it isn’t because I hate ads, it is because of the trackers and the instane amount of data they use.
