Phish is weird, but still a great band. I’m not a huge Phish-head, but they are fantastic, while still very hard to get into. Check out this episode for some pointers to where to start.

Seth Godin:

Consider this: In the 2016 election, the candidates for President will together spend more money on advertising than any single US brand. That’s never been true before–and it’s because marketers today know something that impatient, self-centered politicians don’t. Money isn’t enough.

The Brooks Review

03.07.2015 02:00

I think it will be harder and harder as we move forward to pick the iPad or the MacBook. Apple have on one side made a laptop that is very similar to the iPad, and on the other side they are making iOS 9 more powerful, which makes it more like OS X.

The big questions in the future will be about what you prefer; keyboards and operating systems.

The Brooks Review

Ben Brooks:

I hadn’t touched my contexts inside of OmniFocus in, well, years. There was a ton of cruft in there stemming from various different techniques and ideas that I have tried over the years. Device based context, person based context, time based contexts, and location based contexts. For the better part of a year, all of my new tasks in OmniFocus simply went under the Mac context and — well — that’s not really using the tool very well.

But I struggled, because dicking around with my contexts is not productive, is tedious, and frankly it is quite annoying. More than any of that: I didn’t have a single idea of what to change it to.

The Lamy 2000 Fountain Pen — Tools and Toys

01.07.2015 02:00

Tools and Toys are reviewing my favourite pen – the Lamy 2000. I got the pen around seven months ago, and I love it. I have considered to buy another good fountain pen, but I never pull the trigger, because I’m so happy with it.

  • It looks fantastic. It has the unique look that I always love in products, everyone that have seen a Lamy 2000 once, can reconize it.

  • The writing preformance is amazing. I have never used a pen with better writing experience, and I use it when I can, everything from in Field Notes to lecture notes, blog drafts and in my journal.

  • Piston filler. The pen uses a piston filler, instead of cartridges, which sounds more messy than it is. It is pretty clean. The good thing about it is that it is way cheaper than buying a bottle of ink than cartridges long term, and filling the Lamy 2000 is less messy than filling a converter.

Jim Dalrymple:

I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect much from Apple Music. I was not only pleasantly surprised when I started using it, I’m downright impressed.

Many of the problems I had before with iTunes Radio are completely gone. Selecting genres of music or even something like “70s Rock Hits” or “80s Metal” gives you exactly what you want—great music.

The Pen Addict

01.07.2015 02:00

That’s a lot of pens, I own six pens, but I never carry more than 3 or

  1. And only 4 of the pens I own is in use.

  2. Lamy 2000. This is my go to pen, I always use it, if the paper I am writing on is good enough. Everything from Field Notes to lecture notes, blog post drafts and journaling.

  3. Retro 51. This or the G2 below is the pen I use when I can’t use a fountain pen. Both of them are very good.

  4. Pilot G2 0.7.

  5. Pilot Super Grip Medium Ball Point. This is the most acceptable pen I have found for something very specific. I need a ball point pen for when I’m working (fundraising) or when I take exams. Because I need something where I am forced to write hard enough for carbon paper to do its job. It isn’t fantastic, but it is better than the other ball points I have tried. And it lasts forever.

John Gruber:

I was going to crack a joke about Jindal being more of a clown candidate for president than Donald Trump, but the more I think about it, the less funny this seems. It’s just outright pandering to bigotry and, especially, ignorance — from the sitting governor of one of our states.

It’s one thing to disagree with a Supreme Court decision. That’s part of politics and civic discourse. It’s another to argue that an entire branch of government lacks legitimacy. Keep in mind, too, that Republican nominees have held a majority on the Supreme Court for four decades. For fun, imagine the reaction from these Republicans if Justice Kennedy had been appointed to the Court by a Democratic president, instead of by Ronald Reagan.
