Jared Sinclair | Blog | Judicious Use of Shitty Code

July 08, 2015

Jared Sinclair:

Not all shitty code is equal. There’s such a thing as judicious use of shitty code. Your app shouldn’t crash, so don’t try to be clever. Don’t assume that a web service will always give you the values you expect. Don’t assume that some index is within the length of an array. Don’t pass an NSManagedObject between threads. Some corners shouldn’t be cut.

This is interesting.

There are many good reasons for writing clean code: easier to maintain, better, easier to understand more future proof etc. But there is a difference between writing unclean code, and being stupid. You can create a good app with the first one, but not with the last one.

The Fuji X100T — Tools and Toys

July 08, 2015

I have been looking for a good “compact camera” for a while, and the X100T have been on the top of my list for a few weeks now. This is not the camera that will replace most DSLR or MFT cameras, but it is the first really small camera I’m excited about.

Yes, I’m probably going to buy one of them after the summer.

The Brooks Review

July 03, 2015

I think it will be harder and harder as we move forward to pick the iPad or the MacBook. Apple have on one side made a laptop that is very similar to the iPad, and on the other side they are making iOS 9 more powerful, which makes it more like OS X.

The big questions in the future will be about what you prefer; keyboards and operating systems.

Seth’s Blog

July 03, 2015

Seth Godin:

Consider this: In the 2016 election, the candidates for President will together spend more money on advertising than any single US brand. That’s never been true before—and it’s because marketers today know something that impatient, self-centered politicians don’t. Money isn’t enough.
